Learning Outcome 1 – Drafting

The drafting process was greatly emphasized to us throughout the whole semester, Professor Patterson explained how each draft should build off the past until the final. The process of draft 1 is mainly the initial ideas I build off in my writing, using lists and different ideas to then expand my thinking. Draft 2 involves integrating others’ ideas and feedback, ensuring everything that is needed is within the paper. The final draft is when I mainly remove words and phrases that aren’t necessary to have and in doing so, the paper is more concise and to the point. During the course, we also focused on quick writing and how the ability to write efficiently and correctly is an important and necessary skill for a successful student and employee. Towards the end of the semester, we used a project involving conspiracy theories to gather information and sources to use on our final paper. This allowed us to explore different views on controversial topics that we discussed concerning the given prompt. I now understand the essential importance of the drafting process more than before this course.
